Have a go at olympic weightlifting

Olympic Weightlifting is the gold standard in demonstrating strength, speed and skill. It involves two full body movements; the snatch and clean & jerk.

In Olympic Weightlifting, the objective is to lift a loaded barbell from the ground to lockout overhead in one or two movements respectively. Don’t be fooled by the name, while Weightlifting is an Olympic sport, it is suitable for all!

We have many talented Weightlifters in New Zealand, including representatives at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games. Olympic Weightlifting New Zealand have also inspired athletes of all ages, sizes and backgrounds. LiveFit Health & Fitness Festival is an opportunity for them as a sport to show New Zealand who they are.

Olympic Weightlifting is suitable for everyone- the sport is easily adapted to suit youth through to the mature athlete and does not discriminate on the basis of size. LiveFit attendees will have the opportunity to view experienced lifters of all ages, body weights and proportions demonstrating skilled movement in action. See how movements and loads can be adapted to allow success for everyone.


"Pimp My Lift" | 10:30am-11:15am

This workshop is for gym-goers and athletes who are incorporating the Olympic lifts within their training and could use a technical tune up. Let us know what you'd like to work on and our expert coaches will sort you out!


Introduction to Olympic Weightlifting | 12-12:45pm

This workshop is for anyone completely new to the sport who would like to learn more and run through some basic movements without load (we use wooden sticks to start!). All ages and sizes are welcome (under 14 must be accompanied by an adult).


1:00pm + 3:00pm

See New Zealand's best men and women in action in this fast-paced and exciting competition. Each lifter will perform multiple snatch and clean & jerk movements at increasing weights. This event takes place over two sessions; 1pm and 3pm. Not to be missed!
